It was decided today at a meeting of the club’s Essex Open Tournament committee to cancel this year’s event. There are too many uncertainties around the coronavirus which would result in additional work for the Essex Open Committee in terms of health and safety and risk assessment. With no clear exit strategy from the lockdown from the government at the moment, the health and safety of competitors, spectators and club volunteers was a major concern amongst many others.
It has not been an easy decision but we feel it is the correct one at this point in time. We have run this tournament successfully for 14 years and we are disappointed we cannot run the tournament this year. However, we hope to be back next year with a tournament run to the high standard that we have achieved over the previous years.
For the moment the message from Billericay Lawn Tennis Club is keep well and stay safe.
