Well done everybody on great tennis and great performances!  Read the reports from our Team Captains below:

Under 9s boys captain Piers Nightingale

The 9U Essex boys team travelled to Swindon for the County Cup. I couldn’t be more proud of the four boys that played today; they battled hard and gave everything on court!  A massive well done to Sonny Giles, Gautam Karthikeyan, James Wright and Hudson Burdett. After winning all 6 matches against both Wiltshire and Berkshire and drawing 3-3 against Middlesex, it all came down to a deciding doubles tiebreak shootout. Unfortunately, we lost narrowly 10-7 to Middlesex to finish runner-up, in a match that could have gone either way.  A great experience for all and we’ll only come back better and stronger! Well done to the Essex boys!

U

Under 9 s girls captain Helen Parish

The 9U Essex girls team of Isabella Rebel, Florence White, Annabelle Toman & Sophia Fisk travelled to Swindon on Sunday 16th May to compete at County Cup. The girls put in a dominant performance in their first tie to defeat a young Wiltshire team for the loss of just one game in six matches. Berkshire proved a tougher test, the tie level at 3-3 after singles wins from Isabella, Sophia, and a doubles win from Isabella/Florence. Isabella & Sophia held their nerve in a high-quality doubles shoot-out to take the victory 10-7. The Middlesex team had been dominant all day, with an exceptional no1 player, and unfortunately proved too strong for the Essex girls despite a great win for Florence and fighting performances from the rest of the players. The girls showed fantastic team spirit and support for each other to finish runners-up at first County Cup – a great experience for all involved!

Under 10s Captain Darren Rogers

Essex boys performed brilliantly over the weekend, and as a result came 2nd in the group. We took a team of 6 players to Frinton LTC and each match consisted of 4 singles and 2 doubles. Middlesex were our first opponents and proved too strong taking the match 5-1. Surrey was up next and we quickly took a 3-1 lead in the singles. Another good performance from Toby and Cameron settled the match for Essex and gave us a 4-2 win. Last match was against Berkshire and again we took a 3-1 lead after the singles. Essex won both the doubles to secure a comfortable 5-1 win and second place overall. Good performances overall in not great conditions and well done to Toby and Cameron who were undefeated as a doubles pair.
